Cady Finlayson: News

New in September 2018 - August 16, 2018

One of my summer highlights was snorkeling in Belize. After being in the water with nurse sharks, I am sure the other things in life will not feel so scary. . SO on that note, I am about to release new music! It's a CD I have been working on for a while, and it was recorded right her in Brooklyn at Big Orange Sheep Studio.

Vita put a lot of his guitar magic on it, and we have a few guest artists

(Isaac Alderson, uilleann pipes, Mary Abdill, piano, Chris Benham (engineer and percussion)

Our North Carolina Concert has been postponed due to the upcoming hurricane. We will let you know as soon as we know a new date, but for now, we are wishing the best for the people in the hurricane areas!

DREAM UP FESTIVAL - September 11, 2017

September 11th is always a tough day for New Yorkers and I always make sure I do something that brings me joy.

If you need a happy musical, this is one to check out - we'd love to see you. I have been enjoying trying to dance and play at the same time, and maybe someday I can add some of these moves to my shows with Vita.

For now, the play is what I have been doing....

The Off-Broadway play, FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH will be finishing up its dates at NYC's Dream Up Festival.

If you haven't seen it, now is the time - last few September dates 9/12, 913/ 9/17

check out for ticket links and videos.

Vita and I have also been recording all sorts of music and hope to have some out in the world soon.

July news - July 16, 2017

It's a busy month. The musical I've been doing has 3 shows in July so I'm back to practicing "dancing" and playing at the same time. Vita and I have also been in the studio recording new material. It's so fun to see your tunes come to life - and I'm doing a lot of originals so that's new.

In the midst of it all, I'm also taking a conducting workshop for educators at Carnegie Hall.

and getting lots of inspiration from the many concerts in Prospect Park.

I'm super excited to see Youssou N'dour in concert on August 12th. He is one of my favorite musicians ( yes I am also a huge  Dolly Parton fan).

Here is the trailer for the musical - For What It's Worth

Music video - February 25, 2016

I've been experimenting with combining media, outsourcing, and looking for new ways to introduce music. That's because I'm going to have some new music soon! I went back to my Harp and Shamrock CD and remembered this tune.  It seems funny to say this now, but at the time we recorded it, I thought it might be too modern for my audiences....

and I think it goes beautifully with the city scapes and traffic!

February 2016 - February 14, 2016

We just had Valentine's Day - the COLDEST one EVER and it's hard to believe it's almost MARCH. For those of you that are not in New York City, it might surprise you to know that "St. Patrick's Day" is at least a month long!

They stagger the parades here (different days in different areas), and the celebrations continue....

This month Vita and I are doing a workshop with string students at the Third Street Music School settlement. We'll be playing some Celtic tunes together (both Irish and Scottish in this case) and working on the rhythmic bowing that is so much a part of dance music. We're looking forward to it!

March will speed by, I'm sure, and then the Scottish start celebrating! Vita and I played for a Robert Burn's dinner event in January and we had the pleasure of going through a lot of nice Scottish tunes, so we'll add these to our shows.

Wishing you a great 2016 - cady

A Fiddle Around Town airs October 12th - October, 2015

A new tv segment - "A Fiddle Around Town: Athletes, Motivation & Music" is coming to Brooklyn Public Network and Verizon FIOS cable in new york city on October 12th 8:30 pm. (see showdates for detals).

I was so inspired this summer by my musical experiences - Boston Harbor Scottish Fiddle School, Strings without Boundaries run by Julie Lyonn Lieberman and visiting the Oregon Coast, which is one of my favorite places.

When I got back to New York City, I wanted to keep this inspiration, because as we all know, it's easy to be inspired when you're doing things you love, and much more difficult to keep that motivation when the daily grind sets in.

One lifechange I've made over the last few years is a commitment to fitness, and I love it. It helps with stress, it helps with setting the tone for a productive day, and it's just fun.  Changing a habit can be tricky and I had a lot of help and inspiration from many people.

I wanted this next tv episode to be about the different exercise journeys, motivation and steps we can all take. I interviewed Tonya Benham, who inspired me because she went from running 20 minutes a day to running the NYC marathon. The best part is she really delves into HOW she did it.

I also interviewed my trainer, Jarenn Stewart ( who has helped me to set habits that will be lifelong.

Lesley Gonzalez is my co-host for this shoot, and she is one of my BRIC friends that continues to support and inspire me to do my own thing.

So I hope you can watch it. I will put it on my youtube on October 12th as well.

I really enjoyed playing this concert - it was the 20th Anniversary of the New Hampshire Police Association Pipes and Drums and The Police Pipes and Drums of Bergen County were some of the guests..
